This year's Christmas kringle from O&H Danish Bakery is fudge filled and chocolate frosted. The bakery makes 7,000 kringles a day during December.

You know Christmas is coming when Racine-based O&H Danish Bakery announces the flavor of its holiday kringle. This year, it’s fudge, available until Dec. 31.

O&H says the flavor is based on its "Ohhhh Fudge!" layer cake, which is itself based on the film "A Christmas Story."

Last year's flavor was "Nordic Noel" — filled with cream cheese and ginger cake and topped with vanilla icing and ginger cookie pieces. In 2019, it was "Santa's Secret" — red velvet cake with vanilla pudding.

For this year's Christmas kringle, the bakery uses dark chocolate to make its fudge filling for the pastry, frosts the kringles in chocolate and garnishes them with red, white and green nonpareils. During December, its busiest month, O&H makes up to 7,000 kringles a day, according to a spokeswoman.

Toy drive

To mark the new flavor, O&H is sponsoring a toy drive for Racine County’s Tex Reynolds’ Toys for Tots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 and 5. Customers can bring new, unwrapped toys for children up to 10 years old.

The drive will be at the O&H store at 5910 Washington Ave., Mount Pleasant. Visitors can have their photos taken with Santa on his sleigh, and they'll be available online to download.

Other O&H stores are at 9540 S. 27th St., Oak Creek; 4917 Douglas Ave., Racine; 4006 Durand Ave., Racine; and 717 S. Sylvania Ave., Sturtevant. The bakery has online ordering at ohdanishbakery.com.
